Washington, DC – Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings sent a letter to Chairman Issa today requesting that Fred Wertheimer, the President of Democracy 21, testify at the Committee's upcoming hearing on the draft presidential order that would require government contractors to disclose political contributions.

Washington, D.C. – House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings and Congressman John Tierney pressed for the Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide the Committee with a comprehensive plan within six months of yesterday's hearing to address the unacceptable delays in injured troops receiving the benefits they deserve. The request comes as thousands of wounded warriors ascended upon Washington, D.C. yesterday to meet with elected officials.

Ranking Member Cummings's statement on threats of contempt charges by Chairman Issa to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms: "Our Committee has a responsibility to investigate allegations of waste, fraud and abuse. However, despite my repeated requests, Chairman Issa has refused to meet with the Department of Justice to ensure that his actions do not compromise ongoing investigations and prosecutions, including a trial of 20 individuals that is scheduled to begin in June."

Washington, DC - The continued attack on American workers and public employee pensions in statehouses and now on Capitol Hill suffered a huge blow at today's Committee hearing on state and municipal debt.

Committee Democrats presented a barrage of evidence that refuted the Republican claims that middle-class American workers are to blame for fiscal woes, and forced the majority's witness, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, to admit under oath that his campaign to dismantle workers' rights did nothing to improve the state's budget situation.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to John Walsh, Acting Comptroller at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) yesterday. The letter called on Walsh to consider postponing action to finalize a consent agreement with mortgage servicers, and demanded greater transparency from the OCC regarding the agreement, including a briefing for Congress on the foreclosure abuses the agency found in its investigation.
