Washington, DC —The President of the New York Federal Reserve Bank today called for much more aggressive action to address the nation's housing crisis, including a targeted program to reduce the principal of certain mortgages in order to bolster the nation's economic recovery and serve the long-term interests of U.S. taxpayers.

Washington, D.C. —At the request of Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Committee will hear testimony tomorrow from witnesses dedicated to combating human trafficking. They were denied an opportunity to testify at a December 1, 2011, hearing on grants awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Washington, D.C. (Dec. 12, 2011)—Today, Rep. Elijah Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent letters to the CEOs of 13 for-profit schools seeking copies of compensation agreements for senior executives as part of an effort to determine whether salaries, bonuses, and other compensation are appropriately tied to the performance of students they educate, the vast majority of whom pay for their education with federal tax dollars.

In 2007, then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey received a memo about a botched ATF gunwalking operation. The memo, which was prepared prior to a meeting with Mexican Attorney General Medina Mora, described "the first-ever attempt to have a controlled delivery of weapons being smuggled into Mexico by a major arms trafficker." The memo warned, however, that "the first attempts at this controlled delivery have not been successful."
