Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR), today joined Committee Democrats in the beginning stages of an investigation into foreclosure fraud, robosigning and other errors committed by the private mortgage servicer industry.

Cummings suggested a legislative solution to that loss and requested the help of OGR Chairman Darrell Issa (CA-49) to ensure that solution passes smoothly through the House of Representatives.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, today launched a wide-ranging investigation into increasingly widespread allegations of foreclosure fraud and abuse, seeking documents, audits, and investigations to provide the Committee with a more comprehensive understanding of these allegations and the national foreclosure picture. The requests include:
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, today wrote to Chairman Darrell Issa, expressing concern with three unilateral subpoenas issued abruptly over the past eight days without adequate consultation with Committee Members.
Last Wednesday, Issa issued a subpoena for Countrywide mortgage documents relating to Members of Congress. A day after issuing this subpoena, however, Issa backtracked and said he was "not targeting any members."
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, today highlighted the importance of improving contractor oversight in the Federal Government, particularly in the Department of Defense. To help find ways to improve the contracting process, Rep. Cummings invited Senator Claire McCaskill, Chair of the Subcommittee on Contacting Oversight on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, to testify before the House Committee.
