As demand mounts for Congress to take action to help create jobs, Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings calls on Chairman Issa to address the backlog of initiatives he proposed that would help move the economy forward.
In more than 200 days of session, the Oversight Committee has not considered or debated a comprehensive proposal that would have widespread impact on the economy.
Today, Ranking Members Elijah E. Cummings and Stephen Lynch wrote to Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe strongly objecting to the Postal Service's proposal to abrogate recently negotiated labor agreements as part of a broader request to Congress to address its serious financial challenges. The request would dissolve the "no lay-off" provisions currently in labor agreements.

Cummings requested today that Chairman Darrell Issa hold a Committee hearing on the issue of corporate executive compensation after a report reveals that 25 of the top 100 CEOs received more in compensation last year than their company paid in 2010 federal income taxes.
WASHINGTON – Today, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that Kenneth Melson, the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) will be leaving his post to return to DOJ as a senior advisor for forensic science, and Dennis Burke, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, is resigning his position. The Committee has been investigating ATF and DOJ's handling of Operation Fast and Furious in Arizona and recently interviewed both Mr. Melson and Mr. Burke. Rep.

Our view: Gun lobby aids Mexican gangs
Martin Johnson had a nice little business going in 2008 and 2009. He'd leave home in California and buy dozens of guns in Arizona, where the gun laws are much looser, using an Arizona driver's license to pretend that he still lived there. Back in California, Johnson sold the guns to his neighbor, a convicted felon who couldn't legally buy guns at all. The neighbor sold some of the guns to his buddies, none of whom was a legal buyer, either.
