Washington, D.C. (May 8, 2014)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, spoke on the House floor in opposition to the Republican resolution to establish a new "select committee" to investigate the attacks in Benghazi.

When introducing his resolution on the House floor today, House Speaker John Boehner stated: "This doesn't need to be, shouldn't be,and will not be a partisan process."

Washington, D.C. (May 2, 2014)—Today, Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa took the unprecedented step of issuing a unilateral subpoena demanding that a sitting cabinet Secretary testify before the Oversight Committee—in just over two weeks—and accusing him of a crime. Chairman Issa did not first send a letter making his request, he did not call to determine if the Secretary would be in the country, and he did not hold a Committee vote on his subpoena.

Cummings (D-MD) praised unanimous House passage of the bipartisan Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (DATA Act) which was approved earlier this month in the Senate and now heads to President Obama's desk for his signature. The DATA Act is sponsored by Chairman Issa and Ranking Member Cummings in the House and by Sens. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Rob Portman (R-OH) in the Senate.
