Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement on Prince Andrew Giving Up Royal Title Amid Oversight Committee’s Ongoing Epstein Investigation

October 17, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after Britain’s Prince Andrew said he will give up his royal titles following accusations of his involvement with sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. His decision to resign comes weeks after House Democrats released records listing Prince Andrew a passenger on Epstein’s aircraft, with financial disclosures providing possible evidence of payments from Epstein to masseuses on behalf of an individual identified as “Andrew.”

“Prince Andrew has been accused by multiple survivors of Jeffrey Epstein to have been involved in heinous crimes,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia. “His decision to give up his royal titles is long overdue. We know rich and powerful men used their money and power to abuse girls and young women, and to shield themselves from justice. Prince Andrew’s decision is just the beginning in the Committee’s work to deliver justice for the survivors and push for the release of all the Epstein files; something House Republicans refuse to do. Release the files, now.”
