Oversight Democrats’ Statement On Public Release of Epstein Prosecutor and Former Trump Labor Secretary Alex Acosta Interview Transcript

October 17, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, a spokesperson for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform issued a statement on the public release of the Oversight Committee’s closed-door interview with former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Trump Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta, who oversaw a generous plea deal that allowed Epstein to continue his criminal activity in 2008. Acosta was subpoenaed to testify about his role in overseeing the non-prosecution agreement for convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in 2008, despite overwhelming evidence of Epstein’s sexual abuse of underage girls.

“The transcripts of Alex Acosta’s interview confirm what we’ve known all along: he has no remorse for his mishandling of the Epstein case. He continues to deny he gave Jeffrey Epstein a sweetheart deal, despite cutting the investigation short and granting Epstein a non-prosecution agreement, even though 30 victims had been identified at the time. Because of the deal Alex Acosta gave Epstein, he was able to continue assaulting and raping young women and girls for another decade. No matter how House Republicans try to spin this, Oversight Democrats will keep pushing for the truth,” said Sara Guerrero, spokesperson for Oversight Democrats

In 2008, as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alex Acosta approved a secret shady non-prosecution agreement allowing Jeffrey Epstein to avoid federal charges, despite substantial evidence of sex trafficking and abuse of minors. This was the only non-prosecution agreement Acosta implemented during his time as U.S. Attorney. The Oversight Committee’s investigation into the Epstein files is ongoing, and further witness testimony and financial record review is expected.
