Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after whistleblower documents revealed Ghislaine Maxwell asked President Trump to commute her sentence. Reports from prison staff also suggest Maxwell has received “concierge-style treatment” at her new minimum-security prison camp, receiving customized meals and VIP treatment for her guests. Maxwell should be ineligible for incarceration at a minimum-security prison camp because she is a convicted sex offender. Maxwell’s request for commutation comes after already receiving favorable treatment from the Trump Administration and Bureau of Prisons, following her meeting with President Trump’s former personal attorney, Deputy AG Todd Blanche.
“Ghislaine Maxwell is a convicted sex offender who helped Jeffrey Epstein commit atrocities and rape against women and girls for decades. For months, we have been warning the American people that Trump’s Department of Justice is providing her with unprecedented benefits as a prisoner, including moving her to a less restrictive facility.
Thanks to brave whistleblowers and our partners on the Judiciary Committee, we have more evidence that Maxwell is seeking a pardon or commutation.
We are calling on Speaker Johnson and Oversight Chairman Comer to publicly oppose a commutation or pardon by President Trump.
This is a White House cover-up, and Speaker Johnson is now complicit. Seat Adelita Grijalva, and release the Epstein files, now,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
