Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement After Oversight Democrats Successfully Subpoena the Department of Justice to Release Epstein Files

Washington, D.C.—Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement in response to the Committee’s vote to subpoena the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release files relating to child sex trafficker and Trump’s longtime friend Jeffrey Epstein as a result of an oversight motion led by Rep. Summer L. Lee.  The motion to subpoena the DOJ was made during a Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement hearing and was supported by Oversight Ranking Member Robert Garcia, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, Congressman Wesley Bell, and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.

“Today, Oversight Democrats fought for transparency and accountability on the Epstein files and won.  House Republicans didn’t make it easy, but the motion was finally passed to force the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files.  Let’s be clear: this is a huge win for the American people.  The public deserves to know who was complicit in Epstein’s heinous crimes, including people with immense power in our government.  Today’s vote was just the first step toward accountability, and we will continue pushing for the truth.”
