Musk Spent 130 Days Bringing Chaos, Cruelty, and Corruption to Government
Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2025)— Today marks Elon Musk’s 130th—and supposedly final—day as a special government employee (SGE). Though Musk may no longer have an employee badge, even President Trump admits he is “really not leaving.” Despite today’s Oval Office sendoff, it’s crystal clear Musk will continue to exercise control over DOGE and this Administration from the shadows, the deadly and devastating domestic and international consequences of which will last long after the Trump Administration is over.
After spending hundreds of millions of dollars to elect President Trump, Elon Musk pulled the strings of the Trump Administration to ransack our government; attack, demean, and illegally mass fire dedicated public servants; create a new surveillance state to spy on the American public; degrade the quality of essential lifelines people count on; and line his own pockets with taxpayer dollars.
For his brief stint in public service, Oversight Democrats give Elon Musk a resounding F for attempting to break the federal government, steering lucrative federal contracts towards his own businesses, and helping President Trump revive the Gilded Age of government corruption.

Just because Elon Musk has fled Washington to salvage his cratering reputation and tanking stock prices does not mean he will escape accountability. Oversight Democrats will continue to dig into DOGE’s misdeeds, Musk’s astounding and unlawful conflicts of interest, and hold the Trump Administration and the world’s richest man responsible for the deadly and grave consequences wrought by their greed and incompetence.
Over the last 130 days, Oversight Democrats have:
- Moved to subpoena Musk to testify before the Oversight Committee.
- Launched investigations into Musk’s extensive conflicts of interest, including at the White House and General Services Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
- Demanded copies of Musk’s financial disclosure documents and his SF-86 and other background check forms to examine his conflicts of interest and liabilities, including his ties to foreign adversaries.
- Held DOGE accountable for potential violations of Americans’ privacy by infiltrating government agencies, including the Government Accountability Office, National Labor Relations Board, Social Security Administration, and Internal Revenue Service.
- Investigated multiple cases where DOGE’s technological incompetence introduced cybersecurity vulnerabilities at the Office of Personnel Management, Department of Energy, and Treasury.
- Introduced Resolutions of Inquiry on DOGE’s unprecedented purge of the federal workforce, unsanctioned use of artificial intelligence on sensitive government data, and DOGE employees’ security clearances.
- Successfully urged independent watchdogs to launch investigations into Musk and DOGE’s actions at the Department of Treasury and the Office of Personnel Management.
- Uncovered the backroom deals Musk cut with former Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to undermine the stability and integrity of the U.S. Postal Service.
- Introduced legislation to protect independent watchdogs from Musk’s attempts to eliminate government oversight and accountability.
