Acting Ranking Member Lynch's Statement on Trump's Unconstitutional Action in Iran

Washington, D.C. (June 22, 2025) — Today, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, Acting Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement:

“No president has the unilateral authority to carry out a direct military action this significant and with such potential consequences without first coming to Congress.  It is why I have joined a bipartisan coalition supporting Representatives Massie and Khanna's War Powers legislation to reassert our role. 

“As Leader Jeffries stated, Donald Trump bears the heavy burden of explaining this strike to the American public.  This is a flagrant and unconstitutional action that potentially brings our nation to the precipice of war.  My thoughts are with our brave men and women who defend this country.  Now Congress must immediately reclaim our Constitutional authority and conduct rigorous oversight of President Trump’s decision to carry out this attack.”
