Acting Ranking Member Lynch & Subcommittee Ranking Member Stansbury on DOGE Rescission Package
Washington, D.C. (June 3, 2025)—Today, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, Acting Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. Melanie A. Stansbury, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, released a statement on the Trump Administration’s proposed rescission package asking Congress to enshrining Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts into law:
“People around the world are dying because of Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s dismantlement of USAID. Now, in an attempt to distract from their disastrous agenda and appease the whims of a wannabe king, the Trump Administration is pushing Congress to sanctify their cruel cuts and eliminate more critical humanitarian assistance – including PEPFAR funding to combat HIV and support to help prevent the next global pandemic – undermine the free press, and go after Elmo and Cookie Monster for the unforgivable sin of teaching the alphabet to children,” said Acting Ranking Member Lynch and Subcommittee Ranking Member Stansbury. “These cuts will endanger more lives, undermine America’s global standing, and make America weaker at home and abroad.
“House Republicans cannot claim to care about saving taxpayers money and ensuring fiscal responsibility when their Big Ugly Bill adds trillions to the debt and steals from hard-working Americans to subsidize the rich and wealthy corporations,” the Members continued. “Oversight Democrats are ready to work across the aisle to implement the nonpartisan GAO’s cost-saving recommendations to reduce inefficiencies in a smart and safe way, but we will never rubberstamp Trump and DOGE’s cruel and reckless cuts.”
