Washington, D.C.—Today, Senator Bernard Sanders, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, introduced legislation in the Senate and House to require drug companies to reimburse Medicaid if they raise the prices of their generic drugs more quickly than inflation.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced today that a Senate panel he chairs will hold a hearing next week to explore why the costs of certain generic drugs are skyrocketing. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), who has worked with Sanders on this issue, will take part in the Nov. 20 hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging.
Washington, DC – In his opening statement for today's hearing on Ebola, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, commended the International Medical Corps for its work combatting Ebola in Africa and urged all Committee Members to carefully review the group's detailed testimony, which included specific recommendations to address this crisis at its source in order to protect Americans.
At today's House Oversight Committee hearing on Ebola, Ranking Member Elijah Cummings asked International Medical Corps' Senior Vice President Rabih Torbay about the organization's work combatting Ebola in Africa. Torbay testified that the organization needs three things: people to help with treatment and burying bodies, commodities like disinfectant and ambulances, and money for supplies to prevent infection and treatment beds.

WASHINGTON– Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) today called on the Obama administration to address "staggering increases" in generic drug prices.
"The federal government must act immediately and aggressively to address the increasing costs of these drugs," Sanders and Cummings wrote in a letter to Sylvia Burwell, the Department of Health and Human Services secretary.
