Majority's Draft Contempt Citation for AG Leaked to Press without Committee Members Seeing It
Washington, DC - Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), the Committee's Ranking Member, today wrote to Department of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, requesting a committee staff briefing and detailed information about the investigation surrounding the 12 military personnel implicated in the prostitution scandal in Cartagena, Colombia.
Washington, D.C. —Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, commended the Department of Defense today on its report evaluating the service of women in combat roles and on its announcement that it would open up more than 14,000 competitive jobs to allow women to serve in units co-located with direct ground combat units and at the battalion level in the Army, Marine Corps, and Navy.
At today's Oversight Committee hearing on Operation Fast and Furious, Chairman Darrell Issa called for Andrew Traver's confirmation as the Director of the ATF.
In an exchange with Congresswoman Maloney, Chairman Issa noted that "no one was put up for the first two years of the Obama Administration, and that's sad that they didn't have somebody in the queue earlier."
Chairman Issa then said that Andrew Traver "should in fact be given an opportunity to be confirmed."

Issa requesting that the Committee hold a public hearing with former Attorney General Michael Mukasey about so-called "gunwalking" operations run by the Phoenix Field Division of ATF and the Arizona U.S. Attorney's Office beginning in 2006.

The report describes the results of the Committee's year-long investigation into the actions and circumstances that led to multiple gunwalking operations in Arizona from 2006 to 2010.
