Washington, DC —Today, Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings requested a public hearing with Kenneth Melson, the former Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), regarding Operation Fast and Furious.

"A hearing with Mr. Melson would help the Committee and the American people better understand what mistakes were made in Operation Fast and Furious, how these tactics originated, who did and did not authorize them, and what steps are being taken to ensure that they are not used again," wrote Cummings.

Cummings requested that Chairman Darrell Issa issue so-called "friendly" subpoenas to federal financial regulators to obtain copies of "engagement letters" they have approved between mortgage servicing companies and independent firms hired to review past foreclosure abuses.

Washington, DC – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, will be honored as the "Federal Champion of the Year" by the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition. The award will be given today in Columbia, MD.

Cummings will receive the honor for his efforts to address the foreclosure crisis and promote the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a financial agency that protects families from unfair, deceptive, and abusive financial practices.

Washington, DC —During a meeting today with 19 Members of Congress, Edward DeMarco, the Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), praised a principal reduction proposal by Rep. Zoe Lofgren and pledged to provide an assessment within two weeks of how it could be implemented.

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, hosted the meeting with Rep. Dennis Cardoza, Co-Chair of the Housing Stabilization Task Force, to discuss additional measures to address the foreclosure crisis.
