Press Release

Washington, D.C. (September 19, 2023)—Today, Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D., Ranking Member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, led Democrats in pursuing forward-looking policy solutions to address the nation’s medical supply chain needs in a classified briefing with Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) officials on the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS).  Ahead of today’s briefing, Ranking Member Ruiz and Select Subcommittee Members toured one of the SNS facilities.

Following today’s briefing, Ranking Member Ruiz released the below statement:

“Our nation’s ability to respond to future public health threats is contingent on a well-supplied and well-funded national stockpile. Since taking office, President Biden and his Administration have pursued commonsense reforms to enhance the SNS by expanding supplies, building domestic supply chains, and improving operations to ensure the accessibility of the stockpile when an emergency strikes. While under the President’s leadership, we have overcome the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, our work to strengthen the SNS does not end here. With this week's briefing and tour, we take another positive step forward in improving our nation’s pandemic response and overall emergency preparedness.”
