Rep. Stephen F. Lynch’s Statement on House Passage of GOP Tax Scam and Republicans’ Betrayal of American Families

Washington, D.C. (May 22, 2025)— After representing Oversight Democrats in the House Rules Committee’s consideration of the GOP Tax Scam, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch issued the following statement in response to the House passage of the bill:  

“When asked what matters more, the dignity of working families and their ability to put food on the table and get medical care, or helping millionaires and billionaires get even richer, House Republicans did not hesitate to throw their own constituents under the bus in service of their tax scam to steal from the poorest to gift to the richest. 

“House Republicans know their bill is immensely unpopular, so they used backroom dealings, dead-of-night meetings, and rushed votes to ram this bill through.  But they cannot hide from the consequences of this bill, which will take food out of the mouths of their own constituents, strip nearly 14 million Americans of health insurance, steal from public servants’ paychecks and earned retirement funds, and attack vital lifelines for veterans, seniors, children, and people with disabilities.  This bill is a disgrace, and the American people will not forget who is responsible for driving up costs and making their lives more difficult.”
