Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement on President Trump’s Unconstitutional Attack on Voting Rights and Mail-In Voting

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, released the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order to create a national voter list under his control, restrict access to mail voting, and make it harder for Americans to vote ahead of the 2026 midterms, all while Trump himself cast his own ballot by mail.

“This is another illegal and unconstitutional power grab from President Trump to try and decide who gets to vote in this country. He wants to build a national voter list that he controls, make it harder for Americans to cast their ballot, and ban mail voting outright while he himself just voted by mail. Seniors, veterans, rural communities, millions of Americans depend on this access, and we are not going to let him take it away right before the midterms. We will fight this in Congress and with our partners in the courts to protect the right to vote for all,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.

In February 2026, Ranking Member Garcia led 68 lawmakers in demanding answers from Postmaster General David Steiner on USPS’s preparedness for the 2026 elections, raising serious concerns that new postal transportation policies could delay mail-in ballot delivery, particularly in rural communities.
