Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement on GOP Attacks on Washington, D.C. and Donald Trump’s Targeting of American Cities
Washington, D.C. — Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement prior to a full Oversight hearing, as House Republicans continue to consider policies that would restrict Washington, D.C.’s autonomy and ignore Donald Trump’s continued attacks on American cities.
“While Republicans play games with our nation’s capital, we know the most dangerous criminal in Washington, D.C. is Donald Trump. As we speak, he is working overtime to profit from his office, to violate the Constitution, and to cover up the Epstein Files.
We know that violent crime has no place in our communities, and we should continue to invest in solutions to make people safer and address the root causes of crime. Instead, Donald Trump has chosen to weaponize our troops and law enforcement against everyday Americans instead of targeting violent criminals or helping us pay our bills.
Donald Trump should stop sending ICE and our brave National Guardsmen to American cities to distract from the fact that he’s making life worse and more expensive for millions of Americans. And if Donald Trump really wants to run D.C., he should resign as President and run for mayor,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
