Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement on Federal Judge Ruling to Unseal Ghislaine Maxwell Case Records
Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after a federal judge granted a request to unseal Ghislaine Maxwell’s case records, which includes grand jury transcripts, exhibits, and other investigative materials. Under the Oversight Committee’s subpoena, the Department of Justice must release these documents to the committee.
“The unsealing of Ghislaine Maxwell’s case records is a victory for transparency in the Epstein investigation. These files are now part of the Epstein files held by the Department of Justice, and must be turned over to the Oversight Committee in response to our subpoena, and to the public under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The DOJ must comply immediately,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia. “In addition to this new ruling, a federal judge in Florida has also granted the DOJ's request to unseal Epstein-related grand jury records from the mid 2000s, and the Committee looks forward to receiving those materials as well. It’s clear we’re winning our fight for transparency, and we must continue fighting to deliver justice for survivors. Release the files, NOW."
