Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement As DOJ Continues to Defy Epstein Subpoena, Oversight Committee Lawyers Confirm Existence of Trump Note in Epstein “Birthday Book” in Person
Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement after Oversight Committee lawyers traveled to New York to verify the Jeffrey Epstein “Birthday Book,” which contains a note from President Donald Trump. This comes as President Donald Trump continues to call the Epstein investigation a hoax and denounces his involvement. This also comes as the Department of Justice continues to defy the subpoena issued by the House Oversight Committee, which forces the release of the full Epstein files.
“It has been 40 days since Oversight Committee Democrats forced the subpoena on the Department of Justice for the full, unredacted Epstein files. DOJ has done nothing but send previously released files to Congress in an effort to distract Americans from this White House cover-up.
Last week, a bipartisan group of lawyers with the Oversight Committee traveled to New York City to independently verify the authenticity of Epstein's birthday book. Our lawyers confirmed the authenticity of the book that was given to Congress and reviewed the note written by Donald Trump, which he claimed did not exist.
This stonewalling is unacceptable. The Survivors and the American public deserve the truth, and we will not stop until DOJ complies with our subpoena and releases the full files that include records of who committed these crimes.
Release the Epstein files.”
After weeks of pressure from Oversight Committee Democrats, Chairman James Comer was forced to issue a subpoena that ultimately produced the Epstein “Birthday Book.” President Trump repeatedly denied that a note he authored existed in this book and filed a ludicrous $10 billion lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal for bringing the document to light.
