Ranking Member Robert Garcia Statement on Committee Subpoena for Infamous “Birthday Book” and Demanding Acosta Testify

August 25, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement after the Committee subpoenaed the Epstein Estate for the complete “Birthday Book” prepared by Ghislaine Maxwell for Jeffrey Epstein. In addition to issuing this subpoena, the Committee has called former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Trump Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta to testify before Congress. Acosta oversaw a generous plea deal which allowed Epstein to continue his criminal activity in 2008.

“After weeks of pressure from Oversight Democrats, Chairman Comer has finally issued a subpoena for Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous birthday book, which contains critical information about Epstein’s social network—and has agreed to hear testimony from Alex Acosta.

These are important steps forward to get long-overdue answers about sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes.  It doesn’t matter who you are: If you were involved with Jeffrey Epstein and you hurt people, you need to be held accountable.”

In July, Ranking Member Garcia and Rep. Ro Khanna sent a letter to Daniel S. Ruzumna, Bennet J. Moskowitz, and Daniel H. Weiner, who represent the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, requesting they hand over a complete copy of the “birthday book” after bombshell public reports alleged that President Trump submitted a poem and drawing for the book.
