WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after the Oversight Committee voted to hold Leon Black, billionaire and benefactor to Jeffrey Epstein, in contempt of Congress after defying two Congressional subpoenas.
“Holding Leon Black in contempt of Congress is a critical step in the fight for justice for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. Black continues to defy two Congressional subpoenas. Over the course of their relationship, Black gave over $180 million dollars to Jeffrey Epstein. He failed to appear for his deposition and has refused to provide critical information to this Committee. The House must now vote to hold him in contempt,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
In September 2026, Ranking Member Robert Garcia called on Leon Black to be held in contempt after defying two Congressional subpoenas. In June 2026, after Black walked out of his transcribed interview with the Committee when asked about non-disclosure agreements, Ranking Member Garcia demanded he comply with the Committee’s investigation after being subpoenaed.
