WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after the Oversight Committee moved to hold Leon Black, billionaire and primary client of Jeffrey Epstein, in contempt of Congress after defying two Congressional subpoenas.
“Leon Black has now defied two Congressional subpoenas and refused to cooperate with our investigation. I strongly support Chairman Comer beginning the contempt process. Black funded Jeffrey Epstein’s trafficking and abuse of women and has been credibly accused of sexual assault by multiple women. We must ensure these horrific acts never happen again,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
In September 2026, Ranking Member Robert Garcia called on Leon Black to be held in contempt after defying two Congressional subpoenas. In June 2026, after Black walked out of his transcribed interview with the Committee when asked about non-disclosure agreements, Ranking Member Garcia demanded he comply with the Committee’s investigation after being subpoenaed.
