Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, demanded answers from Kimberly Guilfoyle, United States Ambassador to Greece, following reports of alarming allegations that Guilfoyle engaged in a pay-to-play scheme with a Republican donor, demanding $100,000 in exchange for access to senior Trump Administration officials, with a promise of a $1 million payoff later.
“Using her access and pending diplomatic position to pursue a pay-to-play scheme would be a brazen abuse of power and a stunning addition to Guilfoyle’s existing record of scandal and corruption. This is the latest in a long list of corruption surrounding the Trump Administration, and we’re demanding answers,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
In the letter to Ambassador Guilfoyle, Ranking Member Robert Garcia wrote, “Americans dealing with the cost of living are outraged that a Trump family affiliate and high-ranking official thinks she can get someone to pay off her $100,000 credit card bill by selling policy influence to wealthy donors. I am further concerned by the donor’s claim that you “have done this to more than [him]” and that you are “doing it right now in Greece,” raising concerns about a culture of impunity allowed at U.S. Embassy Athens. I request detailed information about your financial records, communications with Eric Deters, and your communications with senior Administration officials on behalf of your benefactors.”
