Ranking Member Raskin’s Statement on Supreme Court Overruling Chevron Deference

Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2024)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, issued the following statement on the decisions by the United States Supreme Court in Loper Bright v. Raimondo and Relentless v. Department of Commerce:

“Today’s ruling destroying the Chevron doctrine clears the path for a right-wing Supreme Court to substitute its extremist policy preferences for the will of Congress as expressed through agency action.  This is the agenda of the billionaire donors and corporate dark money powers who have been dominating the Roberts Court.  Today’s ruling is a right-wing power grab to dismantle laws and regulations to keep air and water clean, food and drugs safe, workplaces safe and fair, and financial markets honest and transparent.”
