Ranking Member Raskin’s Statement on Election of Rep. Gerald Connolly to Lead Oversight Democrats in the 119th Congress
Washington, D.C. (December 17, 2024)— Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, issued the following statement after Rep. Gerald E. Connolly was elected to lead Committee Democrats as Ranking Member in the 119th Congress:
“I join my Democratic colleagues in congratulating Rep. Gerry Connolly on his election to serve the Committee on Oversight and Accountability as Ranking Member in the 119th Congress.
“Throughout his 16 years on the Committee, Rep. Connolly has proven himself to be a relentless champion for our federal workforce and our Constitution. He is a born fighter who will not back down against bullies and bureaucrats who violate the public interest. As our current Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, he has worked across the aisle to combat waste, fraud, corruption and abuse in government while thwarting right-wing attacks on our institutions.
“This Congress, Committee Democrats worked as the Truth Squad to thoroughly debunk and discredit Republican disinformation, bringing truth and transparency to counter propaganda about President Biden in the failed GOP effort to impeach him.
“In the next Congress, Oversight Committee Democrats will be the foremost line of defense to protect the federal services, programs and workers that the American people depend on. In the 119th Congress and beyond, Oversight Democrats will demonstrate how real oversight for the good of the public works.
“I know that incoming Ranking Member Connolly has the great tenacity, zeal, and fighting spirit needed to lead Oversight Democrats in challenging oligarchy, kleptocracy and plutocratic assaults on the federal government and our workforce. Gerry Connolly is the fighter we need. With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the whole Committee united behind him, he will be a formidable leader.
“As the prospective incoming new Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee, I look forward to working closely with my friend Gerry Connolly to defend our Constitution, our laws, our government and our workforce.”
