Ranking Member Raskin’s Statement on Voluntary Transcribed Interview with Kathy Chung

Press Release

Washington, D.C. (April 4, 2023)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, issued the following statement after the Committee conducted a voluntary transcribed interview with Ms. Kathy Chung, former Assistant to the Vice President:

“Ms. Chung has cooperated with Committee Republicans every step of the way—providing materials to investigators, voluntarily sitting for an interview, and working in good faith with Congress.  She repeatedly explained that she was unaware that there were alleged classified documents at the Penn Biden Center until November 2022, when the documents were first discovered by counsel for President Biden.  By contrast, former President Trump refused to cooperate with law enforcement and repeatedly rebuffed calls to turn over thousands of presidential records and hundreds of classified documents, many of which he knew to be in his possession.  Despite more damning evidence of possible obstruction by Trump, Oversight Republicans have turned a blind eye to Trump’s egregious misconduct.  Prior to today's voluntary transcribed interview, Committee Republicans knowingly misrepresented Ms. Chung’s role with then-Vice President Biden and promoted a baseless, outrageous, and racist conspiracy theory about her, all in order to create a mirage of fake evidence for their empty attacks on President Biden.”
