Oversight Democrats Release Report Detailing “Green” Initiatives in Members’ Districts
Washington, D.C. - As the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee prepares to hold a hearing today to discuss whether the federal government should be investing in "green" jobs, Oversight Democrats released a report that details information about the status of green projects, businesses, job training programs, and jobs in each of the Committee Member's district and state.
"They can't have it both ways – either they are for green energy jobs or they are not," said Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings. "It seems hypocritical to write letters in support of the program one day and then criticize it the next. The truth is the program works, which is why they want the money for their districts."
The report, "Information on Green Initiatives for Oversight Committee Members, by Region and State," was requested by Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings to provide Committee Members with information about green initiatives that may affect their districts. The report compiles information from a comprehensive Brookings Institution study that found that the "clean" economy employs 2.7 million Americans, and specifics on projects supported by the Departments of Energy and Labor. This report is not intended to be comprehensive, but instead provides illustrative examples of green initiatives currently underway and their impact to date.
