Members of Congress to Meet with Housing Agency Director to Discuss President’s Mortgage Refinancing Proposal

October 6, 2011

PRESS AVAIL WITH RANKING MEMBER CUMMINGS AND OTHER MEMBERS AFTER MEETING

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings, Housing Stabilization Task Force Co-Chair Congressman Dennis Cardoza, and other Members will hold a meeting with Edward DeMarco, Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to discuss how the agency plans to implement President Obama's proposal to help responsible homeowners to refinance their mortgages at historically low rates.

After meeting with career officials about the proposal on September 15, it became evident that a meeting with Mr. DeMarco was necessary. As a result, Cummings, Cardoza, and two dozen other Members then wrote to DeMarco requesting today's meeting and expressing their "profound frustration with the apparent lack of urgency" in addressing the foreclosure crisis.
