Cummings Issues Statement on Appointment of  Special Counsel to Oversee Russia Probe

Washington, D.C. (May 17, 2017)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement after the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to oversee the criminal investigation into ties between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian officials, as well as “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation”:

“Knowing Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein from his tenure in Baltimore, I think he made a solid choice in Mr. Mueller, and I commend him for putting our country and justice system first.  I urge Mr. Mueller to follow the facts wherever they may lead—with integrity and independence.”
