Aide of Governor Rick Snyder Contradicting
Governor's Flint Water Crisis Testimony
Washington, DC (Oct. 6, 2017)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to news that Harvey Hollins, a senior advisor to Governor Rick Snyder, reportedly gave sworn testimony in a court of law that he informed Governor Snyder about problems related to Legionnaires’ Disease back in December 2015. Last year, while giving sworn testimony before our committee, Governor Snyder testified that “in terms of Legionnaire's, I didn't learn of that until 2016.”
“Based on Mr. Hollins’ reported testimony, I am deeply concerned that the Governor may have misled the Oversight Committee and the people of Flint. I plan to consult with Chairman Gowdy immediately to determine the Committee’s next steps. One thing that all members of this Committee–Democrats and Republicans–agree on is that witnesses testifying before us must tell the truth.”
