Cummings Issues Statement Following OMB Report on Government Shutdown's Impact

November 7, 2013

Washington, D.C. Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the release of an Office of Management and Budget report documenting damage done by the October 2013 federal government shutdown:

"This report provides even more evidence of how the government shutdown harmed our nation's economy, cost jobs, and squandered billions of taxpayer dollars. This was an extremely expensive lesson, and I just hope that the Republican architects of this shutdown learned it. As we approach another deadline on January 15, I hope we can find a solution that will stop the politics of brinksmanship and allow us to return to our most important task—governing."
