Cummings Issues Statement After Oversight Chairman Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election in 2018

Washington, D.C. (Apr. 19, 2017)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement after Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz announced he would not seek re-election in 2018:

“Chairman Chaffetz is a tenacious and dedicated public servant, and I thank him for showing sincere interest in issues that matter to me and many others on the Committee.  He has fundamentally changed the culture on our Committee so Members, as he says, can disagree without being disagreeable.  After seeing his district and his state first-hand, I can certainly understand why it is calling him back.  It is an honor to serve with Jason on the Oversight Committee, and I wish him and his family all the best in the next chapter of their lives.”
