Cummings Announces Subcommittee Ranking Members for Oversight Committee

January 27, 2015

Washington, D.C. (Jan. 27, 2015) – Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, announced the ranking members for subcommittees in the 114th Congress.

"I welcome our new subcommittee Ranking Members, who bring strong leadership, expertise, and a diversity of perspective to the Committee. I am confident that these Members will strengthen our continued commitment to improving the lives of the American people, and I look forward to working with them to address the critical issues facing our nation and ensuring that the federal government works efficiently and effectively for everyone."

The Ranking Members are as follows:

Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Subcommittee on Government Operations

"I'm honored to be named Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Government Operations and hope to work in a bipartisan fashion with Chairman Mark Meadows to make sure the federal government is as efficient and effective as possible," Connolly said. "We have a great opportunity to work together to strengthen the federal workforce and build on the success of FITARA to streamline our government's use of technology."

Congressman Stephen Lynch (MA-08), Subcommittee on National Security

"It is an honor to serve as the senior Democrat on the Subcommittee on National Security and I look forward to working with Mr. Cummings, Chairman Chaffetz and Mr. DeSantis in defending against threats to America," said Lynch. "This is an area of significant and active challenges for our nation and for democracy right now. I am following my friend and former colleague John Tierney in this position and he leaves big shoes to fill. Hopefully my earlier work in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Yemen will help me to transition into this role. Providing oversight on the Defense and State Department and our intelligence operations is meaningful work and I am thankful to the people of my District for giving me the opportunity to be in the middle of this effort."

Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-17), Subcommittee on Healthcare, Benefits, and Administrative Rules

"I'm honored to be named Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Healthcare, Benefits and Administrative Rules and look forward to working in a bipartisan manner with Chairman Jim Jordan. Together, we have an opportunity to strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and continue to improve our nation's health care system."

Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02), Subcommittee on Information Technology

"I am honored to serve as Ranking Member of the IT Subcommittee with Chairman Hurd and welcome the challenge of providing oversight on some of our nation's most complex technological challenges, including defending our intellectual property, privacy, and IT infrastructure from the threat of cyber-attack," said Kelly. "Whether it's protecting our local community banks from foreign data breach, safeguarding our communications networks, or defending the national energy grid - our national prosperity hinges on our ability to defend ourselves from cyber-vulnerabilities. I look forward to the work ahead for the Subcommittee and to offering bipartisan solutions that strengthen data privacy and infrastructure security."

Congressman Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), Subcommittee on the Interior

"I am honored that I have been appointed to serve as the Ranking Member on the Interior Subcommittee," Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence of Michigan stated. "I am excited to accept this position of leadership. I will use my skills and remain committed to serving the citizens of the 14th District and the citizens of these United States."

Congressman Tammy Duckworth (IL-17), Subcommittee on Transportation and Public Assets

"I want to thank Chairman Chaffetz, Ranking Member Cummings and my colleagues on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for this opportunity. I believe that the Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee can play an important role in making our transportation system more safe and efficient and help our economy grow as a result. I look forward to advocating for my neighbors in Illinois and all Americans as Ranking Member," said Duckworth.
