Chairwoman Maloney to Announce Whole-of-Government Approach to Better Prepare for Extreme Weather Events Following Hurricane Ida
Will Discuss New Legislation to Make the Federal Government a Stronger Partner with Local Communities to Combat the Climate Crisis
Washington D.C. (October 5, 2021)—Today, at 3:00 p.m. ET, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will hold a press conference to discuss legislation she is introducing to ensure the federal government is a stronger partner with local and state governments to better prepare for extreme weather events related to climate change.
The press conference will follow the Committee's hearing with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell, on the Biden Administration's recovery efforts following Hurricane Ida. The hearing will address efforts to accelerate recovery efforts following Hurricane Ida, and steps FEMA must take to implement an environmental justice strategy that will ensure equity in disaster recovery and build climate-resilient communities.
