Chairwoman Maloney Applauds the Postal Service’s Acquisition of a 75% Electric Fleet
Washington D.C. (Dec. 20, 2022)—Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, released the following statement after the United States Postal Service announced a historic investment to electrify 75 percent of its fleet over the next five years and committed to purchasing only electric Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV) starting in 2026:
“As Chair of the Oversight Committee, electrifying the Postal Service fleet has been one of my top priorities. I am proud that the Postal Service made this important decision after my many discussions with the Postmaster General about the importance of adopting an all-electric fleet. This is a win for the Postal Service, the climate, and the American people.
“This acquisition is also a testament to President Biden’s efforts to combat climate change and create a world in which future generations can thrive in. I applaud the Postal Service for this decision, and I look forward to the steps Congress and the Administration will continue to take to protect our planet.”
This announcement will make the Postal Service a national leader in the adoption of electric vehicle fleets and set an example for other federal agencies as they consider acquiring future vehicle fleets. This investment comes after the Committee’s multi-year investigation into the Postal Service’s acquisition of the NGDV and a $3 billion investment from Congress in the Inflation Reduction Act.
