Full Committee Hearing: Post-Katrina Recovery: Restoring Health Care in the New Orleans Region
On Thursday, December 3, 2009, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing titled: "Post-Katrina Recovery: Restoring Health Care in the New Orleans Region." The hearing will examine what progress has been made to repair and augment the post-Katrina New Orleans region’s critical health care infrastructure and what challenges still remain. More specifically, it seeks to understand: the role now played by the roughly 90 primary care clinics supported in part with temporary federal funding after the storm; whether these clinics are financially sustainable; and when, or if, key public hospitals will be rebuilt. The hearing will also examine what additional stresses to the region may occur as a result of expected reductions in Medicaid funding.
