HHS to Probe Skyrocketing Generic Drug Prices

WASHINGTON, April 14 – At the urging of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general has agreed to investigate how sudden price hikes by generic drug makers are driving up the cost of taxpayer-supported health care.

Tackling the Student Debt Crisis

On Thursday, April 2, 2015, United States Senator Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, will hold the third in a series of congressional forums as part of the Middle Class Prosperity Project launched by the members last month.


In February 2012, former Chairman Darrell Issa and Subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan asked the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) to conduct an investigation into concerns that the IRS was applying inappropriate scrutiny to certain applications for tax-exempt status. In May 2013, TIGTA issued its report and concluded that the IRS had used inappropriate criteria in determining tax-exempt status.
