Washington, DC —Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent a letter to Chairman Darrell Issa requesting that the Committee hold a bipartisan hearing to investigate the causes and effects of a data security breach at Community Health Systems Inc., the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain.


On Wednesday, July 25, 2012, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released a report titled "Shining Light on the Gray Market," which exposed a network of private "gray market" companies that take advantage of the national drug shortage crisis to charge exorbitant prices for drugs used to treat cancer and other life-threatening conditions.

On October 5, 2011 Ranking Member Elijah Cummings announced an investigation into "drug speculation" by "gray market" drug companies that trade in drugs that are in critically short supply, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The drugs in question treat life threatening illnesses such as leukemia in children, breast cancer, and seizures.
