Acting Ranking Member Lynch: Senate Republicans Expand Trump Administration’s Assault on Lifesaving Programs, Civil Servants

June 13, 2025

Washington, D.C. (June 13, 2025)— Today, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, Acting Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Republicans released the text of their billionaire-subsidizing reconciliation bill that will escalate the Trump Administration’s political purge of federal workers, and gut the take-home pay and workforce protections of nonpartisan civil servants:

“President Trump’s agenda continues increasing costs on hardworking American families by destabilizing the economy and causing chaos in American communities.  At the same time, Senate Republicans want to expand on House Republican efforts to jam through tax giveaways to their rich donors and billionaire buddies.  This bill puts the American people last.

“The Senate Republicans' bill expands the Trump Administration’s unprecedented assault on lifesaving programs and the dedicated civil servants who keep our federal government running.   The bill would provide a backdoor to implement Schedule P/C, formerly known as Schedule F, which will enable a massive expansion of the purge of nonpartisan public servants in favor of partisan loyalists.  Senate Republicans are then handing President Trump $100 million to reorganize the federal government without knowing how the money will be spent.  This is a stunning abdication of Congress’s oversight responsibilities which will further embolden an already power-hungry President who does not value the rule of law.”

“This Republican bill infringes upon collective bargaining rights of millions of hard-working, middle-class Americans and undermines basic employee protections and due process rights.  From DOGE to reconciliation, Republicans are determined to undermine the ability of the federal government to effectively serve the American people.”

“Senate Republicans are also trying to claw back critical funding to modernize the Postal Service’s aging and dangerous vehicle fleet.  Republicans’ desperate attempts to push their partisan agenda will result in thousands of already purchased Postal vehicles, necessary to deliver the mail every day, deserted on the lot.  This will result in mail, ballots, medications, and other critical items being delivered late.

“The people who will pay most for these attacks are the veterans, children, seniors, and other Americans who rely on our federal workers to deliver lifesaving services.  The Reconciliation bill will make Americans less safe, less healthy, and less financially stable.”
