Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement on the bombshell expose from Bloomberg which revealed shocking evidence on Former U.S Attorney and Trump Labor Secretary Alex Acosta’s mishandling of the prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein. New documents suggest that Acosta’s investigation of Epstein, which resulted in a sweetheart deal and non-prosecution agreement, uncovered far more evidence than previously known regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s financial crimes. In the Committee’s closed door deposition with Alex Acosta in October, he said he looked at “all of the evidence,” and claimed he had no memory of an investigation of Epstein’s financial crimes.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, wrote to Dr. Tanisha Hall, Warden of the Federal Prison Camp Bryan, where Ghislaine Maxwell is currently incarcerated, to demand answers regarding allegations that Maxwell is receiving favorable treatment from the Trump Administration and Bureau of Prisons following her meeting with President Trump’s former personal attorney, Deputy AG Todd Blanche. The letter also demands information following news reports on alleged meetings between Maxwell and unidentified “VIPs” while in custody, raising concerns of a potential Trump Administration quid-pro-quo and pardon. This letter is the third in a series of inquiries to the Trump Administration regarding Maxwell’s prison transfer. The Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons have both failed to provide answers to the Oversight Committee.
