Press Release

Washington, D.C. (Jan. 11, 2023)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, issued the following statement after Oversight Committee Chair James Comer announced plans to hold a hearing with former Twitter executives next month:

“With their first official hearing announcement of the 118th Congress, Committee Republicans have demonstrated their intent to use the Committee on Oversight and Accountability to pursue already debunked and hyper-partisan conspiracy theories about President Biden, his family, and the so-called ‘deep state.’  Two days ago, Chairman Comer said the Committee’s first hearing would continue our work from the 117th Congress to examine the waste, fraud, and abuse of COVID relief funds, but that was then and this is now.  Conspiracy theories and disinformation are already at a fever pitch in the new Congress.  Committee Democrats stand ready to work with our Republican colleagues when they get serious about tackling the problems that affect the American people.”
