Hearing on Steroids in Major League Baseball and the Mitchell Report

Date:

The full Committee held a hearing entitled “The Mitchell Report: The Illegal Use of Steroids in Major League Baseball.” This hearing examined Senator George Mitchell’s investigation into the illegal use of steroids in Major League Baseball.

The Mitchell report has raised significant concerns about the pervasive use of performance enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball for more than a decade. The Committee has previously heard testimony about the devastating consequences when the culture of major league clubhouses trickles down to become the culture of the high school gym. A preliminary transcript of this hearing is now available.

The following witnesses testified:

The Honorable George Mitchell, former United States Senator

Mr. Bud Selig, Commissioner, Major League Baseball

Mr. Donald M. Fehr, Executive Director, Major League Baseball Players Association
