From Recession to Recovery: Examining the Impact of the American Rescue Plan’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds
Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney's Opening Statement [PDF]
Washington D.C. (February 25, 2022)âOn Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. ET, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will hold a hybrid hearing to examine the contributions of the American Rescue Planâs State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds on record GDP growth, historically low unemployment, and healthier communities amid the coronavirus pandemic. The $350 billion program was made possible by the Committeeâs provisions in the American Rescue Plan Act.
Through the Recovery Funds, the Treasury Department has provided direct, flexible support to state, Tribal, territorial, and local governments in responding to the health and economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. Over the past year, these critical federal resources have made the difference between recession and recovery for communities across the country by supporting a wide range of state and local projects to save jobs and small businesses, support families, protect public health, and promote an equitable recovery that supports long-term growth and opportunity for all.
The hearing will examine current trends in expenditures, evidence-based approaches, and existing projects that can serve as models for states and localities as they allocate remaining funds and consider future investments.
