Mr. Chairman, thank you for recognizing me. And let me start by congratulating you on your chairmanship.


January 24, 2011

(Washington, DC) – Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, wrote to Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) today objecting to Issa's proposal to return to the policy employed by former Committee Chairman Dan Burton, who issued over 1,000 subpoenas without minority concurrence or a Committee vote. Rep. Cummings also objected to Chairman Issa's policy of denying minority access to Committee records.

The Ranking Members and Subcommittee members were elected earlier Thursday during the Democratic Caucus of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, in accordance with the Rules of the Democratic Caucus.

WASHINGTON – On December 21, 2010, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD) requested that Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) hold a hearing on the foreclosure crisis. In particular, he requested that the Committee's first hearing investigate "the widespread utilization of flawed and fraudulent practices… throughout the mortgage service industry." Although Chairman Issa said today this is a "subject of interest," he did not agree to hold such a hearing.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and senior member of the Joint Economic Committee, today released a statement, following the Bureau of Labor Statistics Report that 103,000 more Americans have found work, sending the unemployment rate to 9.4 percent.
